Edge Light Notification ("we", "our", or "us") is a notification customization application that displays edge lighting effects and popup cards when notifications arrive on your device. This policy explains how we handle your information.
1. Nature of App
Edge Light Notification is a visual notification enhancement tool. It intercepts incoming notifications to display customizable edge lighting animations and notification popup cards over your screen. The app operates entirely on your device and does not transmit notification content to any external server.
2. Information We Collect
- Notification Data (On-Device Only): The app reads notification titles, text, sender names, and app icons solely to display them in the popup card overlay. This data is used in real-time and is never stored, logged, or transmitted off your device.
- Account Information (Pro Users): When you purchase the Pro upgrade and link your account, we collect your Google account email address to manage your Pro license across devices and verify purchase eligibility. Your email is stored securely on our servers and is used solely for license management.
- Device Information: We collect your device model name, Android version, and an anonymous device identifier for analytics, crash diagnostics, and improving app compatibility. The anonymous identifier cannot be used to identify you personally. Our advertising partners may also collect device identifiers (such as Advertising ID) and network information for the purpose of serving and measuring advertisements.
- Usage Data: Advertising partners may collect app usage data and interaction data with ads to provide relevant advertisements and measure ad performance.
- Purchase Information: If you make an in-app purchase, transaction details are handled entirely by Google Play. We verify purchases server-side to issue and manage your Pro license but do not collect or store any payment information.
3. Permissions We Use
The app requests the following permissions, each essential for core functionality:
- Notification Access: Required to read incoming notifications and display edge lighting effects and popup cards.
- Display Over Other Apps (Overlay): Required to draw the edge lighting animation and notification popup over your current screen.
- Wake Lock: Used to briefly turn on the screen when a notification arrives while the device is locked, so you can see the edge lighting effect.
- Foreground Service: Keeps the notification listener active and responsive, even on devices with aggressive battery management.
- Boot Completed: Allows the service to restart automatically after a device reboot.
- Query Installed Apps: Used for per-app notification filtering, allowing you to choose which apps trigger edge lighting.
- Battery Optimization Exemption: Requested to prevent the operating system from killing the notification listener service in the background.
- Accessibility Service (Always-On Mode): When you enable the Always-On edge lighting mode, the app requests access to Android's Accessibility Service. This permission is used solely to keep the edge lighting effect displayed continuously on your screen, even when no new notifications arrive. The Accessibility Service allows the app to detect screen state changes and maintain the always-on overlay reliably across all device manufacturers, including those with aggressive background process restrictions. The app does not use this permission to read, collect, store, or transmit any on-screen content, keystrokes, passwords, or personal information. The accessibility service configuration explicitly disables content retrieval (
canRetrieveWindowContent="false"). You can revoke this permission at any time through your device's Accessibility settings, which will disable the always-on feature while leaving standard notification-triggered edge lighting fully functional.
4. How We Use Your Data
- To display edge lighting effects and notification popup cards on your screen.
- To store your customization preferences (style, colors, timing, per-app filters) locally on your device.
- To wake the screen and show notifications on the lock screen when enabled.
- To manage and verify your Pro license across multiple devices using your email address.
- To maintain the always-on edge lighting effect reliably by detecting screen state changes through the Accessibility Service (only when the always-on mode is enabled by the user).
- To diagnose crashes and improve device compatibility using device model and Android version data.
- To serve advertisements within the app (free version).
5. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to operate the app:
- Google AdMob: Used for serving advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers, usage data, and interaction data to provide personalized or non-personalized ads. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Ad Mediation Partners: We may work with third-party advertising networks through mediation. These partners may collect identifiers (such as Advertising ID) and usage data to provide relevant advertisements and analyze ad performance. Each partner operates under their own privacy policy.
- Firebase Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as feature preferences, app interactions, and performance metrics to improve the app experience. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing: Used to process in-app purchases. All payment handling is managed by Google Play. We do not have access to your payment details.
6. In-App Purchases
Edge Light Notification offers a one-time, lifetime purchase option that removes all advertisements and provides unlimited access to all app features. This is a non-recurring payment with no subscription or auto-renewal. The purchase is processed through Google Play. After purchasing, you can link your Google account to manage your Pro license across devices.
7. Data Storage
User preferences and customization settings are stored locally on your device. For Pro users, your email address, device model, and Android version are stored on our secure servers to manage your license and improve the app. Notification content is processed in real-time and is never persisted to storage.
8. Children's Privacy
Edge Light Notification is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our advertising partners, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
9. Data Security
Local app data is protected by your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption, etc.). Pro account data stored on our servers is protected using industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. For data collected by our advertising partners, please refer to their respective security practices.
10. Your Choices
- Ad Personalization: You can opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device's ad settings (Settings > Google > Ads).
- Remove Ads: You can purchase the lifetime ad-free upgrade to remove all advertisements from the app.
- Notification Access: You can revoke notification access at any time through your device's Settings, which will disable the edge lighting functionality.
- Per-App Filtering: You can control which apps trigger edge lighting effects within the app's settings.
- Accessibility Service: The always-on mode requires the Accessibility Service permission. This is entirely optional — you can disable it at any time in your device's Accessibility settings without affecting regular notification-triggered edge lighting.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
